This was the first time I have dove Cozumel in the spring. I really enjoyed the milder outdoor temps and decreased humidity, the comfortable 82 degree water temps and the very noticeable decreased number of tourists!
The Eagle and Manta Rays had already left, but we saw a few sting rays and the usual smaller rays. Turtles were abundant and we saw a few nurse sharks. The Toadfish weren’t as plentiful as in Nov…I wonder where they go since they are specific to Cozumel? There were a plethorae of juveniles of many species which we don’t typically see in November.
The water clarity was amazing and that beautifully breathtaking brilliant blue color that draws you in and makes you never want to leave. The currents were fun, but not too crazy or e ticket rides like we have experienced in November. The swim throughs at Palancar Caves and Horseshoe were crystal clear and the coral structures never fail to amaze me. Some look to be smiling at you or resemble animals or cartoon characters.
We had a diverse group of divers ranging in age from early 20’s to 70’s and in experience from seasoned pros to someone finishing their OW cert. We had a great time sharing with and learning from one another.
Pro Divers took good care of us as usual and the resort is continuing to make improvements. We continue to go there because of the very short boat ride to most dive sites, the dive operation is outstanding and we like the all inclusive nature of this place as well as the more remote location. It’s a friendly atmosphere and we always make new friends there.
I experienced a new type of jelly fish on this trip, the Thimble Jellyfish. It was amazing to watch and from what others said, the sting wasn’t horrible. Here is a link to an interesting article about them if you would like to find out more.
