After a spring trip to Grand Cayman, I was beginning to lose my enthusiasm for diving several weeks per year. Needless to say, I wasn’t super excited about any of our upcoming trips. I was on a mission to redirect and do some backpacking and my heart just wasn’t in it.
Well, was I ever in for a big surprise when we submerged in the waters surrounding St Lucia!
There was no better place to be than under water in St. Lucia during June. The health and beauty of the reef, the incredible variety of fishes, the comfortable warm waters and excellent dive staff at Sandals kept us doing 3-4 dives a day all week long. The frog-fish were out in droves!
Sandals has plenty of other activities available at their beautiful all inclusive La Toc Resort, but the ocean kept calling us and we answered! Some of our group did manage to pull themselves away from the diving to spend a half or full day enjoying adventures on the surface, but most of us just couldn’t say no to the diving.
Non-divers travelling with us enjoyed the many included amenities at the 3 Sandals resorts on the island. There was no shortage of fun activities, places to relax, excellent food to consume or beautiful landscapes to take in.
The week flew by way too quickly, as they usually do, and we found ourselves determining to return in 2020. Please enjoy some pictures and video from our trip on our flickr page.
St Lucia we love you and can’t wait until next June when we will enjoy your beauty again!
In August we ventured back to our favorite destination, Bonaire. The dive Gods definitely blessed us during our 2 week stay in Bonaire! It seems to be the year of the frogfish as they were spotted at several dive sites and not just hanging out, but cruising around! We were thrilled and couldn’t get enough photo and video footage of these amazing creatures.
We saw everything from spotted Eagle Rays to schools of big eyed Scad, juvenile Trunks and Drums. We even dove and swam with the dolphins. The elusive Murphy Crabs were spotted by our guide, Carlos, and the excellent underwater photographers travelling with us captured some incredible shots. Bonaire just kept on giving!
The dive staff at Divi never disappoints. We were taken to some of the most pristine dive sites and enjoyed several drift dives during our 2 weeks of diving. Repetitive group travel here rewards us with opportunities to dive many of the sites most people never see. Bonaire never disappoints!
We had a great time on the surface as well. The first week we frequented the local restaurants and spent our last night cruising the shoreline on the party boat. The second week was a more laid back vibe and we grilled and dined poolside many nights. Our last night we shared a potluck dinner with the dive staff and some new friends that we made.
We plan to return to Bonaire next August and I’m sure we will be comforted and refreshed by the warm seas, blue skies and easy living that this island always offers. Pictures and video of our Bonaire trip will be on our flickr page soon. In the meantime, enjoy some here
2019 was an incredible summer of diving, it will be a tough one to beat!
What makes our trips so enjoyable is not only all the behind the scenes orchestration that Mike commands, but the wonderful people who continue to travel with us year after year.
A lovely community of kind, supportive, enthusiastic divers continues to grow and evolve into a fabulous network that we gratefully consider our travel tribe. Great people = Great times!
Thank you for joining us on our journeys!
